1966 Fender Telecaster Custom

The Telecaster is not only the first production solidbody electric guitar, it is also the classic one.
Created by Leo Fender in 1950, its design has seldom changed over the last 65 years.
Truth is, it can’t really be bettered: in its simplicity lies its success.
The list of great musicians who have played a Tele is literally endless:
Muddy Waters, Albert Collins, Steve Cropper, Danny Gatton, PJ Harvey, Frank Black, James Burton…

Introduced during the summer of 1959, the Telecaster Custom was an upmarket version of the regular blond Telecaster.
A clever way to refresh a somewhat dated instrument at the time, the contrast between
the 3 tone sunburst and the white binding makes the Telecaster Custom really stand out.

This all original instrument is a great example of this classic Fender design with a stunning 3-tone finish and a maple cap neck.
Unusually, the spaghetti headstock logo only reads “Telecaster”.
Before 1966, maple neck cap neck Telecasters were rare and only custom orders, and rarer still on Telecaster Customs!
Since the neck fits perfectly in the neck pocket and some of the markings have bled unto the heel,
we can only assume that in 1966 an order was placed for a Telecaster Custom with a maple cap
and Fender simply used a maple neck they had available at the time.

Comes complete with its original black case and bridge cover.
